In lieu of today's Holiday I wanted to dedicate this Motivation Monday to why REST days are so important. THAT'S RIGHT! I said it, REST days.
I know when we set goals for ourselves we have the mindset of, I must workout EVERY day to see change. THIS IS GREAT but, what we forget is that one of the most essential parts of exercising regularly, is giving our bodies time to recover.
When we overuse and stress our body, it can lead to stress fractures, joint pain, and muscle strains. TRUST ME, I've done it.
That being said, I am not saying rest days should be EVERY day either. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity cardio exercise per week. This can be achieved through spending 30 to 60 minutes working out moderately five days per week or spending 20 to 60 minutes working out vigorously three days per week.
However; on a day like today, don't feel guilty if you're taking the day off because a day of rest is just as important as hitting the gym hard. That being said...
Happy Labor Day Everyone! Today, is a day of rest for me, and I hope you ALL enjoy the Holiday with family, and friends.
